Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I access the HBDI® Digital as a Thinker?
- You can access your HBDI® Digital results from Herrmann’s Thinker Portal. Login using the Username and Password you created when you completed your HBDI® Thinking Styles Assessment.
Q: I'm a Practitioner, how do my Thinkers access the HBDI® Digital?
- Thinkers access the HBDI® Digital via Herrmann’s Thinker Portal https://journey.herrmannsolutions.net/thinker
- This link is also provided on the screen upon completion of the HBDI® and in the email Thinkers receive that confirms their HBDI® is being processed.
Q: How is the HBDI® Digital different from the HBDI® Mobile App?
- There are only a few differences between the HBDI® Mobile App and HBDI® Digital.
- The Mobile App allows the Thinker to "share" their profile as a graphic representation through social media.
- The Mobile App also allows you to "guesstimate" another person's profile.
- The HBDI Digital does not require downloading any additional software on your mobile device. It is available through the internet.

Q: Will my Thinkers automatically access the HBDI® Digital or do they need a debrief?
- HBDI® Digital is locked until the Thinker enters an unlock code provided by the Certified Practitioner.
- Thinkers can use either the custom code or their preference code to unlock their profile
Q: How do I unlock a Thinker’s profile on HBDI® Digital?
- The Thinker unlocks their profile from the Thinker Portal using a code provided by the Certified Practitioner.
- If the Certified Practitioner creating the invitation prefers the Thinker use a custom code, they can include that custom code in the invitation to the assessment. The custom unlock code can be useful when running a group debrief session.
- Thinkers can also unlock using their profile code (e.g., 1121), which is typically provided by the Certified Practitioner during the debrief.
Note: Thinkers can use either the custom code or their preference code to unlock their profile.
Q: Is there only one code to unlock HBDI® Digital?
- The Certified Practitioner can select from two ways to unlock the HBDI®:
-
Thinker can enter their Preference Code
-
Thinker can enter a custom Code set by the Certified Practitioner.
-
- With either option, the underlying premise is that either the CP has already debriefed or is about to debrief the Thinker.
Q: What happens if a Thinker forgets their unlock code?
- When presented with the unlock screen, Thinkers can click on “Unlock code help.” The Thinker is informed that they should have received their code during the debrief with their Certified Practitioner. Questions should be directed to the practitioner, but they can contact Herrmann support if they do not know or cannot reach their practitioner.
Q: Is there a printable version of the HBDI® Digital?
- The HBDI® Digital is designed to be an interactive experience, however it includes a two-page summary report that can be downloaded as a PDF and printed. The summary is easily accessible from the HBDI® Digital left menu or from the Thinker Portal.
Q: I'm a Practitioner, how do I see the same HBDI® Digital that my Thinker sees?
- Certified Practitioners can login to Axon and search for the Assessment for the appropriate Thinker. The “View Results” link will allow you to choose a PDF or Digital Results. Or a Certified Practitioner can simply search for the “Thinker” and then choose “View Results".
Q: What is the impact to me as a CP if I want to use paper packets?
- The HBDI® Digital gives you a way to debrief your Thinkers without using a paper packet. If you wish to continue the traditional debrief method using the paper package, you can do so. In this case, the HBDI® Digital can be used as a follow-along resource once the Thinker has received their paper package. The HBDI® Digital remains locked until the Thinker has entered their HBDI® Profile Preference Code (e.g. 2112) or a custom code the Certified Practitioner provides them.
- Paper packets are a premium product and incur an additional fee.
Q: What is the Certified Practitioners role with the HBDI® Digital?
- The role of the Certified Practitioner is essential. The HBDI® Digital makes it easy to conduct a debrief with a Thinker, providing an interactive tool that gives additional ways for Thinkers to understand their profile. HBDI® Digital is ready to go as soon as the Thinker completes their HBDI® Assessment. As a Certified Practitioner you remain in control of the process, and decide when to provide access to the Thinker.
Q: I’m running a group workshop. I want to have everyone access their HBDI® Digital results during the session. Can I do this?
- Yes! If you want to have everyone unlock their results during the session, you should remember to choose the custom code unlock option when sending the invitation.
(NOTE: Don’t forget to consider wifi access, as well as any company firewalls that might affect your Thinkers' ability to get online. Here is an article with helpful preparation hints: https://herrmann.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360021594993)
Q: Will Thinkers have access to the content from the HBDI® Booklet if I use the HBDI® Digital as my debrief resource?
-
HBDI® Digital has been designed as a Whole Brain® learning experience, with many elements of the booklet being incorporated throughout. For instance, there are FAQs in the HBDI® Digital which touch on some key points from the B section of the booklet. There are also application tips and explanatory notes throughout the HBDI® Digital. If you or your Thinker want to look up other profile codes, you can do this in the Preference Code Search on the Thinker Portal (available after they have unlocked their profile), where the Thinker can read more about different profile codes and relevant application tips.
Q: In what languages is the HBDI® Digital available?
- The HBDI® Assessment is currently available in 16 languages, however Herrmann’s Thinker Portal and the HBDI® Digital are currently available in 6 core languages:
- English (US)
-
English (International)
-
French
-
German
-
Chinese Simplified
- Spanish
- Why the difference? Herrmann feels strongly that the HBDI® assessment should be available in a Thinker's most comfortable language whenever possible. We want to be able to release multiple languages on Thinker Portal and HBDI® Digital now in our 6 core languages while we evaluate adding other languages.
Q: What happened to education, occupation and hobbies?
- The HBDI® Digital does not include every element of the HBDI® Survey form. Currently the digital debrief does not include the Education, Occupation, Hobbies, and the Twenty Questions sections. However this data is still available on the HBDI® Data Summary Report, available by using the "Print Summary" button.
HBDI® Digital: How to set it up in Axon
Q: I forgot to setup an unlock results code. Can I go back and fix that?
- You can edit an invitation and include an unlock code, or you can simply provide each Thinker with their Preference Code to unlock their results.
(Please note that for any Thinker who has already unlocked their Profile, editing the custom unlock code afterwards will not “re-lock” their results.)
Q: How do I see the code I set up in Axon?
- In the Invitation Creation you will be prompted to select an unlock option. You can choose to enter a custom unlock code (great for use with group debriefs) or you can allow Thinkers to use their HBDI Preference Code. You can also see the code setup in the “Edit” Invitation screen, underneath the “I want to setup how my Thinkers will get access” item. On the Invitation Details page for each Invitation, you will see the Unlock code listed. Lastly, you can see the Thinker's Preference Code listed on the Invitation Details, once the Thinker has completed the HBDI. This information is also available on the Group Details page within Axon.
Q: Can I lock a Thinker’s HBDI® results if they’ve already unlocked it?
- Once a Thinker’s results are unlocked they cannot be locked again.
Q: Can I edit older invitations to include locking information?
- You can edit invitations that were created prior to this feature release, and you can include the locking setup. (Note: though that extra step is not required since all Thinkers will need to unlock their results and can do so by entering their HBDI® Preference Code.)
Q: How do Thinkers who completed an HBDI® before Axon access their HBDI® Digital?
- Great news! Thinkers who completed an HBDI® prior to Axon can create an Axon account, and “reclaim” their HBDI® to gain access to the Thinker Portal and to the HBDI® Digital. If you have multiple Thinkers who have taken the HBDI® in the past, you can request a “batch” setup and we can help many Thinkers create their account and reclaim their HBDI® very easily.
Q: What is the Unlock Status and Unlock Code on the Invitations Details and the Group Details page in Axon?
- On the Invitations Detail pages and the Group Details pages, you'll now see two new columns. The Unlock Status is an indicator as to whether the Thinker has "opened" their HBDI Digital Results. And the Unlock Code is the indicator as to how the invitation was set up with either a custom unlock code that the person who created the invitation prepared, or if the Thinker can use their HBDI Preference Code to unlock their HBDI Digital results. The Thinker will need this information provided by the Practitioner in order to open their HBDI Digital Results and the HBDI Mobile App.
